Mar. 13 Katie bill@billalford.com Why tandem riding? Riding with others who own tandem (Dan Alion). He recommended I join and allow my wife to try a tandem before making the expenditure.

Bill rides a lot with his 2006 goal of 6,000 mls. A CAT 5 racer, also stokes for Dan Alion, he hopes his wife continuing to put miles on her bike, will encourage them both to keep tandem riding in mind for a healthy experience and a way for Melissa to join Bill on his daily rides.

Why tandem riding? Performance, time with son, road riding experience for son.

Both my sons (Tyler and Bradley) and I are into dirt bike motorcycling and mountain biking. I recently got into road riding (bicycles), and have included Tyler in that via the tandem. Bradley actually fits the tandem and we have done short rides (<5 miles) in the neighborhood. LuAnne (my wife) has ridden once with me, and I hope to ride more with her this year/05. My sons and I also go camping and hiking. Tyler and I competed in all 5 races of the 2005 Winter mountain bike series here in Charlotte. Tyler is very academic, 7th year piano, 3rd year trumpet. I am a programmer.

Why tandem riding? We both enjoy biking but have different abilities on singles. Interested in overnight trips, weekend getaways, dinner socials

We might have an interest in overnight trips but that will probably need to wait until Emma is a bit older. We’ve been riding together since 1998 and enjoy touring with our tandem.  We’re new to the area and are interested in riding in new areas in North Carolina with other tandem teams.  Walter is a statistician and Leslie is a paralegal.  We’ll be buying a trailer to pull our daughter this Spring and are looking forward to getting back on the tandem. "Why your interest in tandeming"  It’s more fun doing ultra-distance cycling on a tandem

We’ve done Boston-Montreal-Boston (2000); MI National 24-Hr Challenge (2002) and Paris-Brest-Paris (2003), Fleche North Carolina (’00, ’01, and ’03), plus 4 full brevet series together since getting the tandem.  Chet and Cynthia both would like to ride as a group in areas of: coast, mountains of NC; Chesapeake Bay area, anywhere fun & scenic that’s no more than a 4-hour drive from Raleigh area. Further away places on their list would be: France, Andorra, Spain, Italy, Greece/Turkey, Netherlands (North Sea Route), Morocco/Tunisia, Iceland. Hobbies and other interests: - Life other than bicycling!  We bicycle about 6-7000 miles per year.  We have been orchid growers for many years; Cyndy is an accredited American Orchid Society judge.  We also enjoy adventure travel, sea kayaking and gardening.  Chet is a computer geek; Cyndy is finishing her Ph.D. in Design.  She did her research in Liberia.

Coughlin’s are outdoor people who are happiest when they're active. They ride single road and mountain bikes in addition to tandeming. They are members of the Rocky River Road Club & founding members of the TailWind Tandem Club. Dolores and Dan have both held the VP position for TailWind. Both run, do weight training and are members of health clubs which they use in poor weather. Recently they've been focusing more on being very careful about nutrition and healthy eating. They also enjoy cooking when life isn't overly hectic. Trips of traveling to the beach for vacation for relaxation; also enjoy visiting interesting cities. Dan has been a life long upland bird hunter and Dan has trained English Setter pointing dogs. Dolores is Dan’s chief navigator and works hard at this new profession.

No children, but a spoiled dog named Murdock SherMitLee@aol.com Interests/ Hobbies:  "Cycling is our passion."  Both Mitch and Sherry have become die hard roadies over the last few years.  They also like off-road riding, though Sherry prefers rail trails and double track and Mitch would rather risk life and limb on challenging single track.

This tandem couple spends all of their free time and vacations cycling. Some trips they have taken: Canadian Rockies, Cycle NC 3 times, BRAG, Bike VA, and Bike FL.  Upcoming for summer of 03' Bicycle Tour of Colorado.  If this isn't enough they also love weekend cycling trips.

The tandem was a 10-year anniversary gift from Mitch (much better than jewelry any day!).    It has added a new dimension to their riding. Sherry states, "It's a great way to spend time together, and you find that everyone smiles and waves as you pass.  You can't help but ride it with a great big grin on your face.  We're still working to find a happy medium between Mitch's mashing and Sherry's spinning, but we get better with every ride.  We can't wait to join the Tailwind Tandem club on weekend rides and getaways!"

When not riding, the Lee's love to camp, hike, water-ski, work on their old house, spend time with friends and family, and hang out with their dog Murdock.  Mitch agrees, "so many hobbies, so little time!" (Westbend Vineyards in Lewisville).

Over night trips, weekend getaway, dinner socials and day rides are of interest to Will. Will says, “life is a balance of work, family life and play.”

A hobby that Will took up in 1986 as a grad student in New Orleans was homebrew beer every 1-2 months; all styles of beer. Will commented, “and sharing is the best part, planning in advance I can make beer and bring a 5-gallon keg for weekend overnight trips. Homebrew on tap!”

At age 43, Will runs his own computer network consulting company and he purchases hardware and software wholesale. He is offering TailWind members savings if you have an interest.

Will is a member of Mint Museum, enjoys art, the symphony, the theater and other cultural activities.

Why your interest in tandeming? Riding with a partner makes sense. Two people with different abilities can ride together.

June 02   wam-murphy@carolina.rr.com "Why we tandem ride?" Great activity that we can do together, tandeming enables us to ride together which we couldn't do on singles due to our difference in riding abilities. Great way to spend time outdoors, great way to tour new areas. Tandeming is an enjoyable way to stay active. Tandems are cool".

Enjoy State Parks and camping in our travel trailer, meeting interesting people from around the country. Love the outdoors and enjoy hiking, camping in the mtgs. Cycling has been a great passion for Bill and enables Joyce and Bill to enjoy riding together. Stay active with family and church as well.

Combing two passions: bikes and riding with good people is why we like to tandem ride.

Scenic areas of N.C. and S.C., movies, overnight trips, weekend getaways and dinner socials would be nice times to gather. Roy is a full-time student with gardening, riding bikes and cooking on his list of things to do. Nancy is a psychologist, moratorium group, gardening and cooking as well make up her past time.
