Why tandem riding? Performance, time with son, road riding experience for son.
Both my sons (Tyler and Bradley) and I are into dirt bike motorcycling and mountain biking. I recently got into road riding (bicycles), and have included Tyler in that via the tandem. Bradley actually fits the tandem and we have done short rides (<5 miles) in the neighborhood. LuAnne (my wife) has ridden once with me, and I hope to ride more with her this year/05. My sons and I also go camping and hiking. Tyler and I competed in all 5 races of the 2005 Winter mountain bike series here in Charlotte. Tyler is very academic, 7th year piano, 3rd year trumpet. I am a programmer.

We might have an interest in overnight trips but that will probably need to wait until Emma is a bit older. We’ve been riding together since 1998 and enjoy touring with our tandem. We’re new to the area and are interested in riding in new areas in North Carolina with other tandem teams. Walter is a statistician and Leslie is a paralegal. We’ll be buying a trailer to pull our daughter this Spring and are looking forward to getting back on the tandem. (Photo taken on their 10th Annv.. in Ireland 01')

Why tandem riding? - "Like to do things with spouse and we both love to cycle." We do long-distance touring on individual bikes. Why tandem riding? "We enjoy riding together, and the tandem makes us one cycling unit. Communication is much easier, and it's fun working as a team." (Marcia said she needs Ron to pull her up Mitchell this year since she claims to be a horrible climber.) "Why your interest in tandeming" It’s more fun doing ultra-distance cycling on a tandem
We’ve done Boston-Montreal-Boston (2000); MI National 24-Hr Challenge (2002) and Paris-Brest-Paris (2003), Fleche North Carolina (’00, ’01, and ’03), plus 4 full brevet series together since getting the tandem. Chet and Cynthia both would like to ride as a group in areas of: coast, mountains of NC; Chesapeake Bay area, anywhere fun & scenic that’s no more than a 4-hour drive from Raleigh area. Further away places on their list would be: France, Andorra, Spain, Italy, Greece/Turkey, Netherlands (North Sea Route), Morocco/Tunisia, Iceland. Hobbies and other interests: - Life other than bicycling! We bicycle about 6-7000 miles per year. We have been orchid growers for many years; Cyndy is an accredited American Orchid Society judge. "Why tandem riding?" I am a fairly experienced solo rider and we have tried riding separate bikes which leaves Deb (inexperienced rider with low confidence in shifting and spinning) waaaay behind, no fun for either of us. I'm 62, Deb 57 and dislike doing much without the other. We've read now pretty extensively and are now in the serious phase of bike shopping in the 2k-3.5k range.....love talking to Doc about the possibilities.
Deb and I enjoy folk music of various sorts. Both of us spent many years in Pipe Bands with her playing snare drum and myself playing bagpipes (still do, professionally). We also enjoy Irish traditional music with Deb again on percussion while I enjoy performing on Uilleann pipes, Scottish Small pipes, guitar and pennywhistle, both sing a bit...Other serious hobby is vegetable gardening on our half acre just outside the City Limits in Gastonia. Both of us also enjoy Indian Classical music (remember Ravi Shankar?) with Deb again learning Tabla and myself Sitar......we belong to the Charlotte Hindu Center as we used to go every Sunday for Yoga....still belong and are also involved with the Charlotte Indian Classical Music Societies enjoying the scheduled visiting musicians in concerts.

They all feel that the family and couple tandem riding is their big interest in riding tandem.
Captain Mike has attended the Eastern Tandem rally a few years back and would go again in the near future.
Mike and his son Kevin (currently then 14) finishing the MS on day two of the 150K “Tour of Tanglewood” from Greensboro to Tanglewood Park (Clemmons). A great, but hilly ride they would admit. Kevin was the main power stoker for this event. A quote from father Mike ~ “amazing how much energy 14 year olds have.” This was the 4th year (3rd on the tandem) for this event. Kevin has plans to go on his single bike for MS 2002.
Let’s not forget another important Stoker in Mike’s life. His daughter Amanda who joined Mike in 2000 MS, but was unable to participate for 2001. It’s a possibility you might see this father-daughter tandem team for the MS 2002 out of Tangelwood this year.

This couple enjoys doing many more things than they have time for. They love the water and living on Lake Norman. They enjoy swimming, boating, some waterskiing (more in past years than recent), and fishing. They love to fish in Canada and more higher producing lakes. They both love the outdoors. John is an mechanical engineer and Susanna is an admin. assistant to a major aerospace company (Goodrich Corp). When John isn't tending to his immaculate lawn, you can find him tinkering in his garage on his many bikes. He is good with all tools, hence, Susanna's wood shop out back where you can find her making all sorts of crafts as this is one of her passions in life next to flower gardening.
