Dream on……
Way back when the TailWind Tandem Club started I had the fortune to get in touch with Machelle and Tony McCann. Though I have never met this couple or able to ride tandem with them and their girls (Cassisi and Jennifer) our emails were always pleasant and “keep in touch” sort of way. Early in 2006 the dreadful email bounce came back and I lost contact with Machlle. You will always meet those pleasant people that come into your life for a very short time. This was one of them.
To my surprise, Jay Brosnan sent me an email from Machelle when she read about his “Blue Ridge” trip with his grandson (Aug. 07 issue of Double Spok’n). I quickly shot off an email to Machelle (with a working email). Even way back April 2005 in their rider tandem profile they mention “VA cabin”. If you read from the bottom up thru the emails the story is told.
Follow your dreams --- they do become reality! Congratulations Machelle in pursing your dreams!!! Sincerely, Susanna

Hey there! Long time no email! lol...
So, we moved out of Charlotte over a year ago! But I still like getting the emails from the tandem group, so I never said anything.
Anyway, we're at mile post 192 off the BRPW up in Virginia. If you want to let riders know, that would be cool. I don't have much space in the house for them to sleep, but lots of room to pitch a tent if they want. They could also shower here and such if they needed to. Our phone number is 276.398.1101. Also, I'm a massage therapist and yoga instructor if anyone's interested in that.
Hope you're doing well. Let me know if you need any further info! See ya, MAM

Thanks for your kind words, Machelle. Our trip was a great experience for us because Dan and I are pretty close. I was his father figure for a number of years when his mother was going through a divorce and we did many things together. Our ride was somewhat of a capper as he's venturing off to UNC Chapel Hill and adulthood in two weeks. If we'd known you were where you are we could have stopped and missed the rain enroute to the hostel. You should let Susanna Sisk know if you'd like the word out that you can put up cyclists for an overnight and she can see the info gets in Double Spok'n. Your Web site is very informative. Do get out and ride, even if for short daily rides. Unwind at the end of a hectic day! Jay

Just read your Parkway tour experience with your grandson. Wow!!! What an awesome thing for ya'll to do. It will make for great memories for both of you in the years to come. If there is a next time, please make sure to plan a stop here for the night. We use to live in Charlotte, but moved to our cabin on the BRPW over a year ago. We live close to MP 192 (close to Fancy Gap). You went right through here on your trip. We see a lot of bikers, but have yet to get out there ourselves. Life's been a little busy for us lately. I opened a spa (www.mountainangelspa.com). I'm sure ya'll could have used a good massage by this point on your trip! Anyway, congrats on your endeavor. Maybe one of these days we'll get our butts out there and ride! Would love to have ya'll stop in next go round! Machelle McCann
Email to Susanna:
4/05-I'm in school to get my massage license and still working full time; I am actually doing a community service project for school and have contacted the MS Society about the dollar rides! I'm loving every minute of this career choice so far. I'm a mother hen and it really lets me cater to that. I'm set to finish up in the August time frame hoping to take my national certs and get licensed by Sept/Oct.
Tandem Rider Profile:
Love the outdoors. Boat and enjoy that during summers. Own a cabin in VA mts. just off the pkway. We can get away for a bike, ride, hike, canoe trip, picnic. Spending time w/girls.
